How Fast Wolves Age

Wolves grow to about 80% of their final body weight in their first year of life.

Thus… if the old adage that 1 wolf year = 7 human years is true — the average 7-year-old girl would weigh about 100 and the average 7-year-old boy would weigh about 130(!)

In reality, the 7 to 1 rule doesn’t work in:

  • a wolf’s first 2-1/2 years — when they are more advanced than us, nor
  • in a wolf’s later years — when s/he can sometimes live longer than most humans (in wolf years)
